Although I was treated, there were huge delays. While I understand an A&E department is busy aside from one nurse and a healthcare assistant, all others were unhelpful in keeping me updated. My wife who was with me did seek updates but at all times she was made to feel a nuisance. On one occasion I went to get an update and I was treated poorly by the nurse in charge ( Renata I believe his name was) . While it was later explained to me I was to remain in my isolation room as I had flu, I was brushed off by Renata saying I had to go back to my room and not come out. He told me he would come to see me. Needless to say he did not come to see me.
I was very well treated by the two nurses who saw me initially (a Filipino lady whose name I did not get and an Irish male nurse, Kieran I believe). I was also very well treated by a health care assistant who took observations from me over the 10 hours or so I was in A&E. Unfortunately I don't remember his name.
Very poor service, doctors and nurses treating patients like animal not human and started arguing when asked questions.
Very good i happy

I was brought to A&E by the ambulance crew on Friday 1st March 2024 around 4pm. I waited for around an hour and a HCA came around to do my cannula and bloods and then another 30-40 minutes later the doctor came to see me. I told her I was concerned about a pulmonary embolism as I had surgery last week and I came in with pleuritic chest pain and asked if she could make sure a D diner was done (which is usually done with anyone presenting with chest pain). She reassured me it will be done and also referred me for a chest X-ray. By the time this was done it was about 6pm or so and I was asked to sit back out in the waiting room.
From there on until 10pm no doctors came to see me, my pain deteriorated and I saw the nursing assistant who asked one of the nurses to get some painkillers. I asked him whether the blood test results are back and when checking informed me that the d dimer was not at all which I was appalled about.
They then proceeded to do another set of bloods and repeated the ECG which took another 2 hours for the results of the blood test to come back. By midnight my pain was really bad and the nursing assistant had to call for one of the doctors to see me. The doctor who then saw me at that point was very kind and acted promptly to organise my scan and get me a bed in majors and everything was smooth from there on. I was diagnosed with a PE and referred to medics. I was in majors until about 10am Saturday until I was transferred to the ward. The nurse in charge of my at night was amazing and very helpful throughout the night.
I’m very disappointed that my PE could have been missed if I hadn’t pushed for a d dimer to be done. Whilst I understand the pressure the NHS and our doctors are under, safety should always be the upmost importance.
I waited for a total of 27 hours. I saw over 12 medical professionals. They lost my urine sample, I went and looked for it. They mistakenly took me to ward and wasn’t communicating what was happening, I was discharged but doc didn’t tell nurses. I had to repeatedly go and tell them to read my notes to see I’ve not had scan, the nurse thought I’d already had it. I was only discharged when I repeatedly told them to look at my note. Doc promised to prescribe me a specific painkillers but didn’t put it in my notes. Communication was very very poor.
I was very pleased with the speed, and how I was treated.
Healthcare professional were very professional.
Doctor involved in my care communicated well and answered all my questions as to what we are investigating and why.
Nurses involved also were very professional in their job and given very clear instructions how I have to collect the urine sample over the 24 hr period and exactly when I have to take the tablet given before my appointment next day.
All in all everyone involved in my care showed great professionalism in what they were doing. This includes the receptionist that came to ask me while, I was sitting waiting outside nurses room, to check whether someone has checked me in.
In summary very pleased this time for attending the King George Hospital.
Kept updated and informed
